I always thought that lazy people find the most efficient and innovative ways to do routine things. And as a chronically lazy girl, who happened to love her weekly spa time, I just couldn't help coming up with a new, more "efficient" way to take my bubbly/ salty/ fizzy/ melty bath. From my Weekly Spa Routine post
you know that I would usually use (and make!) four different products
for my bath time: I would crumble my bubble bar under the running water,
pour in some salts (and I'd also stir the salts into the water for a
few mins:-(, and then once in the tub - I would use my bath bombs and
bath melts. It's like a 4-5 step process that was definitely taking some
joy (and time!) away from my "me" time:-( That's why I just HAD to come
up with this DIY - my very own creation - Bubbly Fizzy Melts! As you
may have guessed each such melt is a combo of four products and it only
requires me to rub it under the running water so that it releases
EVERYTHING into the bath tub right away - bubbles, salts, moisturizing
butter and scents WITHOUT me having to stir the salts, agitate the
bubbles and dissolve the melts. ALSO, I will be selling these babies in MY OWN homemade cosmetics store that I'm planning to open very soon (more on that later;-) So if you're interested in buying these melts, please email me @ MariaSself(at)gmail(dot)com and I will let you know once the melts become available in the store.
Soo, back to my DIY;-) Here's how I make these little time-savers:
WHAT I USE:
1 cup Baking Soda - detoxifying, soothing (even helps with chronic problems like eczema & psoriasis)
2/3 cup Sea Salt - rich in minerals.
2/3 cup Citric Acid - by fizzing, citric acid helps salts dissolve better and heightens the effects of scents and oils.
1/3 cup Colloidal Oatmeal
- highly softening, soothing & healing (helps with itching, rashes, allergic reactions & many other skin conditions) - I bought it once at a Dollar Store (different brand) & it was fine, but it had some unfresh scent to it. If you don't mind the scent, it can be a great inexpensive option, yet I'm not sure, if it was still as effective:-(
1/3 cup SLSa (Sodium Lauryl Sulfoacetate) - bubbling agent, believed to be easier on the skin than SLS.
1/3 cup Cocoa Butter - melts in hot water, softens & moisturizes your skin.
a few drops Essential Oil/Plant Extract (of your choice) - vanilla scent would be the best fit.
1 tbsp Cocoa Butter Cream
3tbsp Cocoa Powder
Soo, back to my DIY;-) Here's how I make these little time-savers:
WHAT I USE:
"chocolate frosting"(optional):
HOW I MAKE THEM:
I first put a medical mask on to avoid inhaling the SLSa (it's very airborne), and mix together all the dry ingredients. Then I melt cocoa butter using double boiler method: I put cocoa butter in a small pan, take a frying pan, pour some water in it, put it on the stove on medium heat and then place my small pan with cream into the frying pan so that the butter melts and becomes liquid. Once it’s melted, I let it cool down, add essential oils, pour the butter into my dry ingredients and mix everything nicely together. After that I form my bars by cutting them out with a jar/ glass and then put them into the fridge for about an hour to harden. In the meantime, I make my "chocolate frosting";-)
For the frosting I combine cocoa butter cream with cocoa powder and melt them together using the double-boiler method (see above). After that I put the frosting into a zip-log bag, cut a tiny hole in the corner and then squeeze the frosting stripes onto the bars.
And here you have it: yummy Bubbly Bath Salts Fizzy Melts that make my spa time even more fun and less fuss! I hope you guys are having a great weekend!

ReplyDeleteWhen watching your blog
I get inspiration
are excellent <3
Oh, thank you;-) it means a lot to me!
DeleteHey there do u have to use sls or can u leave it out or sub it?
ReplyDeleteWithout the SLSA you have no bubbles.
DeleteIf I want to leave out the oatmeal, would everything else stay the same, or would I need to adjust any measurements?
ReplyDeleteDid you ever find out an answer? I was wondering the same thing! :)
DeleteYou would have to keep adjusting to get the same consistency however, if you just left the oatmeal out from the recipe you would have a looser base that you could then pour into molds. :)
DeleteI want to make these for Christmas gifts and was wondering how many bombs the recipe makes.
ReplyDeleteI'm a little confused as to the cup measurements in this recipe - are you able to tell me the equivalent in grams please?
ReplyDeleteHow many does this recipe make?
ReplyDeletequestion if you didnt want the "frosting" to be chocolate, what would you do to substitute it, also slightly unrelated but rather than posting two seperate questions on two seperate posts...for the bath melts is ginger a necessary ingredient, i dont like the smell of ginger...does it need to be substituted or can it be eliminated?
ReplyDeleteYou could easily melt cocoa butter and once it has cooled enough to look like a thick cream you could spoon it on them. :)
DeleteHello! I am very excited to try this recipe out, I was just wondering if there is any alternate to cocoa butter cream for the frosting? I can't seem to find it in my country, or cheaply :/
ReplyDelete-Sarah
You could use melted soap. :)
