WHAT I USE:
- 2 tbsp Aloe Vera Gel
- anti-inflammatory and antibacterial, yet highly moisturizing
- 1/2 tsp Witch Hazel Extract - anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and antimicrobial
- 1/2 tsp Sea Salt - contains vital minerals that help acne heal faster and prevent infections (source)
- a few drops*** of Thyme Oil - anti-septic and anti-bacterial - I've been hearing more and more people saying that thyme oil is THE best oil for acne treatment.
- a few drops of Tea Tree Oil - heals existing acne + kills acne-causing bacteria.
- a few drops of Lavender Oil - antiseptic and antibacterial, yet "easy" on the skin and doesn't cause excessive dryness.
- a few drops of Peppermint Oil (optional) - peppermint oil isn't used in Grease Lightning, but I use it because it doesn't only inhibit the growth of acne-causing bacteria, it also increases blood circulation and has an amazing cooling effect. Remember why we put ice pack on wounds? Ice stimulates blood circulation in the area you apply it to and thus prevents any discoloration in the form of bruising and scarring. Peppermint oil has similar effect on acne. (source)
HOW I MAKE & USE IT:
I first combine sea salt with witch hazel extract and aloe vera gel and mix them very well together. I then add my oils, mix again and put into a container. Whenever I need to use this treatment, I put some on a cotton swab and apply on the spots. I use a new swab/side on each spot to avoid transferring bacteria and I never use my fingers to apply the gel.

It definitely is helping, but I also need to fight the habit of touching and popping my pimples when they show up - habit I ended up with after some stressful time in life:-( And yes, I'm trying to squeeze in some time and to work on opening a store - again, thank you!!!

ReplyDeleteAnyway I was wondering how often you use this spot treatment also would it be okay to use it like a toner and then put benzoyl peroxide on top of it? Or would that irritate the skin too much?
Thank you, Sayako! it means a lot to me, really! and I'm glad you find my recipes helpful;-))) To be honest that's exactly how I've been using this treatment for the past few days, because I was traveling and forgot my toner at home. this guy worked great! as for benzoyl peroxide on top of it - I honestly don't know and don't want to comment on something I haven't tried.... sorry, I wish I could help more with that:-(

ReplyDeleteand I'll share this one with you.....for an emergency "pimple paste".....grind two plain aspirin tablets to a fine powder (mortar n pestle works best for this, makes a nice even powder!) add water ONE DROP at a time to get a smooth paste.
You don't have to treat your entire face....apply the paste only to the pimple or break out area..... (I use a small cheese spreader that was orphaned from a set and re-purposed!l) .....let it dry....rinse....you can do a final touch up with Witch Hazel on a cotton swab.
This worked great when I was a kid and I've used it for my own teenagers.....it helps "speed heal" and remove inflammation from pimples that need to *disappear* before school pictures, prom or other special event....you can repeat the treatment every 4-6 hours as needed..... MUCH cheaper than those pricey things in the stores and VERY effective!!....and most households have a bottle of aspirin in the medicine cabinet so no extra trips to the market!!

Thank you so much :) my friend gave me a little sample jar of the grease lighting to take home and try one day. It worked great! But when I went back to the store to purchase it I picked up the bottle to read the ingredients first (like i do with anything i buy) and was shocked to see that paraben was one of the ingredients listed. Lush said that all there products we're "naturally made" I was so disappointed because I refuse to use anything with paraben in it. So I definitely appreciate this home made version of it I will definitely be trying this :)

My acne don't last for longer but there scars don't go easily which make me looks weird. Thanks for sharing about how to treat scar.
ReplyDeleteJust an FYI, my daughter's Derm let us know that individuals with seasonal allergies, asthma and/or eczema may be more prone to tea tree oil allergies and to use it with extreme caution as the allergies can appear at any time. In fact part of what we thought was acne was actually a skin reaction to the tea tree we were using. (A real bummer because I put it in our shampoo to help ward off pests from camp....
